‘Elements of Horse Spirit’ celebrates the Year of the Horse

The Snake is shedding its skin, and on February 17, 2026, Horse picks up with fresh, powerful, energy — ready to gallop, or plow, or prance forward to whatever your goal may be. In Chinese astrology, Horse energy does not like being reined in by others. Horse is confident and intelligent, yet impatient, and unafraid of physical and mental exertion.

There’s a lot more to Horse than is outlined by Chinese astrology, and I’ve gathered it all into my book, “The Elements of Horse Spirit — The Magical Bond Between Humans and Horses.” From evolutionary relationships, to horses in history, to horse symbology in magic and tarot, it’s all in there.

There’s a section dedicated to working magically with your own horse, and how to get started on finding your own magical equine partner. However, you don’t need to own a horse at all to harness the magical, spiritual power of Horse. Horse gets the job done, whatever it is. I employ Horse magically all the time, but as in real life, a different horse depending upon the task. That’s where the “Elements” come in: Earth, Air, Fire, Water, and Spirit.

Earth Horse is slow, steady, and immensely powerful. Imagine the draft horses, the Big Boys of the equine realm. They can drag logs down from mountainsides, plow the thick fields, and pull the heaviest of loads — all while maintaining focus until the job is done.

Air Horse is the jumper; the racehorse. It knows the course or path it must follow, and it is determined to stay true to that path, clearing any obstacle that stands in the way. It is a source of mental focus, clarity, and momentum.

Fire Horse is the quick Quarter Horse, fierce and fearless, and ready to cut any cow from the herd. Nothing gets past Fire Horse. It will help you find what needs to be cut from your life, and remove it from the herd. If you need a problem solved with swift command, Fire Horse is your ally.

Water Horse is the elegant, graceful dressage horse. It takes years of practice to master the many ballet-like moves of dressage, and Water Horse provides patience for mastery, particularly in the arts. Whether it’s dance, music, theater, or writing, Water Horse reminds you that consistent, dedicated time and practice will achieve the results you want.

Spirit Horse is your core — your direct connection to the magical energies of the Universe. Spirit Horse is a white light that comforts and grounds, and reminds you that no matter what swirls around you, you can choose to remain centered, grounded, and in charge of your own choices.

There are so many ways to incorporate these Elemental Horses into your life, work, relationships, and goals. This is Horse’s forte — getting the job done, and carrying you wherever you need to go, no matter the obstacle or challenge. What horses have done physically for humanity over time, literally moving mountains, Horse can do for you metaphysically. There’s no more opportune time to discover Horse’s energies than the upcoming Year of the Horse.
